Museum of Cosmonautics
When it came to space exploration, Russia and the United States were formerly at odds. While that is no longer the case, the museum’s incredible collection of over 85,000 objects is nonetheless breathtaking.
The space capsule used by Yuri Gagarin, the first human to journey into space; a Soviet flag with moon pieces; a Soviet spacesuit; and a rocket propulsion unit from the 1960s are among the main displays. Sections of the Mir space station’s interior are on display in a dedicated two-story hall, along with models of the first sputniks and a replica tiny spaceship.
There are English-language tours available, as well as a Cinema Hall that screens subtitled short films about the history of space exploration and the first manned space voyage.
The museum is housed within the base of the Conquerors of Space monument, which was constructed over 20 years before the museum opened.
